The Subiaco Football Club Women’s team has had six players originating from the club announced in the 2019 WA State 18s squad.

It is a fitting reward for the club after putting additional efforts into their talent pathway for female football in recent seasons.

Led by Senior Coach Sarah Michell and new Rogers Cup coach Pia Faletti, the Rogers team has made their best start to a season.

That success has been a catalyst in Kia Buckley, Kato Bosmans, Suzie-Rose Deegan, Abbey Dowrick, Rianna Matulin and Rebecca Viney being selected to the WA 18s squad.

Buckley who hails from Subiaco’s Regional district in Esperance moved to Perth in 2018 and has impressed with her hard running, strong marking and attack on the ball.

Buckley has been a keen learner striving to improve her game and 2019 is her second year being involved in the 18’s program following participation in 2018.

Buckley is the captian of the Subiaco Rogers team this year, producing an outstanding pre-season with a dedication and desire to encourage the players around her, highlighting her growing leadership skills.

Bosmans is a dedicated team player who has worked on her fitness and football knowledge, producing her best football of her career so far in 2019.

Her hard running and tenacity have made her a strong role model for the team and part of the reason Bosmans has been included in the leadership group of the Rogers squad.

Deegan who hails from within the Subiaco district only played a couple of games for Subiaco as a dual sport athlete balancing time between football and basketball.

Her natural talent caught the eye of the West Coast Eagles AFLW with Deegan being one of the first players signed for their inaugural 2020 AFLW squad.

Dowrick is one of the most naturally talented footballers in the Subiaco Women’s system with her strength and footballing skills making her one of the most damaging players at the club.

Dowrick produced a stunning WAFLW debut this season with three goals in her debut match as a 16 year old.

Despite her tender age, Dowrick shows leadership on-field and has proven to be an outstanding team player looking to include her teammates in the action.

Matulin is another who hails from Subiaco's regional district, from Kambalda having made the move to Perth for the 2019 season.

She is a hard running player with exceptional skills and the versatility to play in a number of different positions making her a valuable asset to both the Subiaco side as well as the State side.

Viney who played with North Beach in amateur football last year and took out the best and fariest of the competition has come to Subiaco in 2019.

Viney is a tough and physical player with her attack on the ball a feature of her game and led to her debuting with the Subiaco WAFLW side early in the season.

The whole Subiaco Football Club congratulates the women on selection in the program and wish them best of luck for the representative season.
