Imagine Vincent Match a success

The Subiaco Football Club successfully held the first Imagine Vincent match last Saturday with a large crowd in fine voice as Subiaco defeated West Perth.

The Imagine Vincent Match which was a joint initiative between the Subiaco Football Club and Event Major Sponsor the City of Vincent saw local businesses and local residents actively engaged with attending a WAFL footy match.

Along with the engagement with local community as part of Imagine Vincent, the Subiaco Football Club also honoured their junior clubs pre-match with for the first time in recent memory all seven junior clubs competing in a junior parade.

Players from the Balga, Carine, Kingsley, Kingsway, Sorrento-Duncraig, Stirling and Warwick Greenwood Junior Football Clubs made up a contingent of over 300 players, parents and club staff who took part on field including making a makeshift player tunnel onto the field.

The strength of the growing partnership between the Subiaco Football Club and the City of Vincent was evident at a pre-match function where Subiaco President Mark Lawrence and City of Vincent Mayor Emma Cole each spoke about the value that football clubs can offer to local communities.

Across the day residents of the City of Vincent along with visitors to the city were asked for their feedback on imagining what the City of Vincent would look like in 2028. An Imagine Vincent marquee and display was set up between the Subiaco supporters stand and the Kids Zone with a host of ideas provided to the City of Vincent team.

Subiaco midfielder Adam Cockie gallops in front of the Imagine Vincent banner.

The outer side of Leederville Oval was given a dash of colour with a large Imagine Vincent banner taking place under the scoreboard, proving popular with the local children while Footy Radio also supported the event allowing Mayor Cole to speak during the quarter time break taking the Imagine Vincent message beyond Leederville Oval on the day.

Post-match players joined with staff from the City of Vincent for the continuation of sharing ideas and thoughts for Imagine Vincent at the player presentations.

Subiaco Football Club would like to thank the City of Vincent for their support in the lead up and attendance at the match. Special note to Mayor Emma Cole, Deputy Mayor Ros Harley, Councillor Jimmy Murphy, Councillor Matt Buckels, Director of Community Engagement Michael Quirk, Alanna Curtin and Kara Pisconeri for their ongoing efforts to make this a successful event.

The Subiaco Football Club encourages all members to visit www.imagine.vincent.wa.gov.au and support the City of Vincent’s Strategic Community Plan.
