History of Vincent

Subiaco are celebrating their local council relationship with the Imagine Vincent match on Saturday so it’s the perfect time to reminisce on the last decade or so.
The Lions moved to Leederville Oval in 2004 from their original home base at Subiaco Oval, co-leasing with East Perth under a $4m re-development.

The ground created a perfect foundation to operate from and the City Of Vincent cooperated with the two WAFL clubs to guarantee a sufficient mecca of football in the heart of Leederville.

The Maroons secured a premiership in the very first year they moved to their new Leederville home in 2004 and have gone on to win a WAFL leading six flags over a 13-year period.

Not only have they been the most successful club in the WAFL, the Lions have an incredible winning record at the venue. Since 2004 the Lions 112 out of 156 matches at Leederville for an incredible winning percentage of 71.72%.
Along with this the ground has been host to countless memorable occasions. The relocation created the perfect platform for Subiaco and East Perth to grow a healthy rivalry, specifically for Good Friday Football. The venue has hosted countless community events including NAIDOC Round, Men’s Health and Count Me In Round.
It has also been a host to a multitude of classic games including WAFL Finals, State Games, AFL clashes and the historic Indigenous All-Stars game in 2015.
The venue has been in existence since 1915 with the first ever match played on the ground resulting in a 15-point Subiaco win over West Perth. Since that moment it has been used for Open Track and Field Championships, a picture theatre, the 1962 Commonwealth Games and much more.

The Town of Vincent formed in the early 90’s and took administration of the historic venue, leading to the allocation of a football purposed stadium.
Although the relationship between Subiaco Football Club and TOV only spans over a decade, the partnership has provided a foundation for aspiring footballers whilst simultaneously enriching the community surrounding it.
