PREVIEW: Round 16 (2017) vs Perth

Subiaco will celebrate NAIDOC Round with a clash against the Perth Demons at Leederville Oval on Saturday.

The Lions (12-1) are on a historic streak and will be determined to continue it against the Demons (2-12).

Subi matched a club record of 12 consecutive in-season wins last week against the Falcons and have shown the grit and character to create something special in 2017. The key will be to remain focussed and overcome a Perth side who have shown promising signs over the last few rounds.

Perth are having a frustrating season and have lost their last six, but have had leads at different points against Swan Districts, South Fremantle and East Fremantle in the last month. The Dees are showing fight but have failed to maintain it for four quarters.

Ironically Subi have only lost two regular season games since RD16 last year and one of those losses came against Perth in terrible conditions at Lathlain Park. The Maroons will be wary of the wounded Demons.

TALKING POINTS

The SFC District does solid work in the local areas specifically through their Balga and District Dreaming programs. The Lions currently have four indigenous players on their senior list with Cockie, Liam Ryan, Shannon Nelson & Dylan Nelson set to proudly represent their culture.

SFC will use this round to honour their 2007 champions with heroes such as Brad Smith, Ben Keevers, Aidan Parker, Darren Rumble and of course head coach Jarrad Schofield celebrated during the Round 16 fixture.

Three players from this team; Daniel Rich, Greg Broughton and Mark Nicoski went on to play large amounts of AFL football. Captain Marc Webb continued onto a very successful coaching career at the Fremantle Dockers & head coach Scott Watters went on to coach at St Kilda.
