PREVIEW: Round 15 (2017) at West Perth

Subiaco will battle old rivals West Perth for International Round at HBF Arena, Joondalup on Saturday.

The league leading (11-1) Lions face the (7-5) Falcons in a crucial Round 15 match-up that will provide valuable momentum heading into the last portion of the season.

Subi are currently on an 11-game winning streak but are coming off a week rest with the bye in Round 14. The Falcons have been inconsistent over the last month which was emphasised by a two-point loss to Claremont in the last Round.

The Maroons have had the edge since 2006 leading the tally 19-12, with the most notable win for the Lions coming in WAFL Grand Final 2015.

The rest will have done wonders for the charging Lions and they will look to exploit West Perth’s leaky defence who are conceding an average of 91 points a game. Despite having inconsistency in the back half the Maroons have some of the best defensive figures in the league only conceding 70.75 a game.

TALKING POINTS

SCHOEY’S 100

Subiaco’s Jarrad Schofield will coach his 100th game against the Falcons becoming only the second Lions coach and play over 100 games for the club and the first since Wally Steele. Schofield has a winning percentage of 69% since taking the helm in 2013 and his influence has been profound at the club.

BALL WINNERS v BALL USE

West Perth have a lot of prolific ball winners and are third in the league for disposals. On the other side of the ledger Subiaco pride themselves on their effective ball use, with players like skipper Kyal Horsley, Leigh Kitchin and Max Walters noted for their damaging disposal.

FORWARD BALANCE

Subi have an incredible balance in their forward line at the moment with leading goal-kicker Liam Ryan (39 goals) surrounded by a plethora of complimenting players. Clancy Wheeler has had a strong season kicking 22 goals and providing a key target, whilst Ben Sokol, Liam Baker and Brad Stevenson have all played parts in the balance.

LAST TIME THEY MET

Subiaco won a tight game by 11 points at HBF Arena in Round 3. The Lions overcame an eight-point half time margin to rise above the Falcons
