PREVIEW: Round Nine (2017) vs South Fremantle

The game of the season looms for Subiaco as they take on South Fremantle at Leederville Oval this Saturday.

The premiership contenders both sit at 6-1 and will be determined to create some breathing room on top of the ladder.

Subiaco’s form couldn’t be any better with six straight wins since their season opener loss to the Bulldogs. Subi have dismantled every other top five side including West Perth, Peel and more recently the Swans.

South Fremantle’s only blemish came against the Swan Districts in Round Two and they have been un-touchable since. The Bulldogs have won five straight and accumulated a monster percentage of 175% along the way.

This Round 9 clash will feature the two in form sides meeting at the peak of their early season momentum. Expect fireworks at Leederville Oval on Saturday.

GAME CHANGERS

HORSLEY 150

Subiaco will be inspired to win for their captain Kyal Horsley, who is set to play his 150th WAFL game against the Bulldogs. Horsley has been a name associated with Subiaco football for a very long time and along his 150 games he has provided countless memorable moments for the Subi faithful. Horsley made his SFC league debut in 2007 and has gone on to represent WA twice, win the Outridge medal twice and win three WAFL premierships. His performance in the 2016 Grand Final also suggests that the Kalgoorlie champions’ output isn’t over.

EYES ON KELLY

The Bulldogs have a deadly weapon in the form of Tim Kelly. Kelly has earned early Sandover mentions due to his blistering start to the season. The pacey wingman has been averaging 29 disposals a game on the Dogs winning streak. Subi will be conscious that Kelly creates holes that will need to be plugged to slow South Fremantle’s powerful attack.

BIG BODIES WILL MEET

The Lions brought in experienced players Adam Cockie and Justin Joyce against the Swans in Round 8 and it resulted in the Lions over-powering their opponents at the stoppage. South Fremantle and Subiaco’s midfields arguably possess the most experience and talent in the league; this makes the stoppage game a crucial element. Football fans will be looking forward to Kyal Horsley, Leigh Kitchin & Chris Phelan lining up on Shane Hockey, Hayden Schloithe and Tim Kelly throughout the day.
