SFC '17: RD1 Preview @ South Fremantle

Subiaco will kick their season against the Bulldogs at Fremantle Community Bank Oval this Saturday.

The two finals contenders have been competitive rivals over recent years and this will likely continue. Both sides were unbeaten in their pre-season clashes.

Jarrad Schofield and the Subiaco coaching staff have a big week ahead of them as they narrow down the best 22. The Lions have rounded out their pre-season strongly and have an almost full strength squad heading into Round One.

South Fremantle add firepower with ex-Essendon Corey Dell’Olio returning from a ban handed down by ASADA in 2016. They also gain the services of Jermaine Miller-Lewis, Jarrod Garlett and Jake Solomon.

In 2016 the Bulldogs and the Lions were the two highest scoring teams in the competition. South Freo were scoring an average of 91 a game whilst Subi were scoring at 89.9 points a game.

Subiaco were the stingiest defence in 2016 conceding just 63.5 points a game.

GAME CHANGERS

ON TOP OF THE DOGS

Subiaco have had South Fremantle’s measure over the last couple of seasons. The two clubs have provided a host of blockbusters but the Lions have won the last six against the Bulldogs, a streak that edges closer to the club record of nine consecutive wins from 1993-1996.

THE LAST TIME THEY MET

Subiaco demolished the Dogs in the 2nd Semi Final (2016) at Leederville Oval 14.12 96 to 9.2 56. The win put Subi into their third consecutive Grand Final, the loss sent the Dogs onto a straight set exit in the ’16 WAFL Finals Series against Peel.
