PREVIEW: Round 11 at East Perth
- Thursday, 26 May 2016
Subi burst out of he blocks in 2016 and firmed as clear favourites until signs of complacency emerged. After winning the first six games of the season, the Lions have now lost two of the last three and are desperately trying to reconnect with their early season form.
East Perth has been inconsistent in 2016 and finds themselves outside the top five with a record of 4-5. Last week the Royals fell short to Peel with a score of 3.7 in the wet and have shown problems when playing the better teams.
Bill Fetherstonhaugh has responded well since being dropped to the twos and Hayden Yarran could also be a possibility with 21 goals from 9 games.
East Perth fielded a strong side against Peel last week with Eagles Lewis Jetta, Jamie Bennell and Jackson Nelson lining up for the Royals.
SATURDAY MAY 28
Subiaco’s Hamish Shepheard currently leads the league in goals with 23 but will come up against one of the leagues in form defenders in Tom Barrass on the weekend. 2014 West Coast draftee Barrass has been biding his time in the WAFL and will be an interesting match up for key forward Shepheard.
The Lions didn’t adapt well to the conditions last week against West Perth but the next game is an opportunity to bounce back. If Subi can move the ball through the midfield and hit their breakout targets they have the ability to run over the Royals. With sunshine scheduled, the Lions will have no excuse in missing targets on Saturday.
