Priddis 200

Matt Priddis will play his 200th game for the West Coast Eagles on the weekend and stands among the top 10 for SFC AFL appearances.

Priddis is marginally behind the rest of the pack with 199 games since his selection in the 2006 AFL Rookie Draft.

Drew Banfield (WCE) leads the list with 265 AFL games followed by Dean Kemp (WCE) 243, Shane Parker (FRE) 238, Tyson Stenglein (ADE/WCE) Jarrad Schofield 206 & Antoni Grover 202.

200 games would have seemed impossible for Priddis a decade ago after he was overlooked at three consecutive AFL drafts.

The West Coast took a punt on Priddis; selecting him in the Rookie Draft after winning the Outridge Medal for Subiaco's fairest and best in 2005.

The hardworking midfielder stuck to the task and produced a barnstorming season in 2006 for the Lions, which led to the Sandover Medal and another WAFL premiership. By the next year he was a regular in the midfield for the Eagles.

Priddis was able to reflect on his time at Subiaco a couple of years ago and he spoke fondly of his foundations at the club.

“The culture (at the Subiaco Football Club) is something that I was proud to be a part of and it really held me in good stead for my future,

“The work rate of the entire playing group, the seniors and the reserves, a good 45 guys who absolutely worked as hard as they could and it was those foundations that really set the club up for the next four or five years of winning premierships and playing in Grand finals,

“That’s the one thing I’m very grateful of, being a part of a group that was prepared to put in the real hard yards and extra sessions to be successful.” Said Priddis

Even though Priddis has now represented West Coast more than Subiaco he treasures his time in the Maroon & Gold.

“I know I’ve played a little bit more at West Coast but Subiaco holds great memories; they gave me my start, Peter German in particular was some one for me to really learn off… He was there to keep the dream alive so I’m forever grateful for the opportunities that Subiaco have given me.”
