SFC 2016: Preview Round 2

Subiaco meet co-tenants East Perth for Good Friday Football with recent history seared into their minds.

The Royals gave Subi their biggest Good Friday defeat last season and the Lions will be determined to rectify that loss at Medibank Stadium tomorrow.

Both clubs had polarising starts in Round One and have different goals heading into tomorrow's game.

Subi got off to a gritty start with an eight point win over Peel in Round One. The Thunder had 18 Fremantle players but the Lions outmanoeuvred Peel in the second half to finish the game strongly.

East Perth had 17 listed Eagles players but experienced the opposite of a close game. The Royals only managed five goals in Craig Wulff’s record-breaking game as Claremont cruised to a 76 point win.

With West Coast playing this weekend the Royals are expected to field a very different looking side against Subiaco. A large group of East Perth players will be elevated back into the league side, which makes for an un-predictable match-up.

A BIG OUT, A BIG IN
Although the Lions managed a win over a first class Peel side in Mandurah there was collateral damage. 2015 Premiership winger Scott Hancock hurt his knee in the first half of the Peel game and scans revealed the speedster had an ACL tear. Hancock will spend the rest of the season on the sideline as he repairs his knee.

Softening the blow of losing Hancock for the season is the return of experienced midfielder Adam Cockie. Cockie has completed his suspension for a bump on Brayden Antonio (West Perth) in the pre-season and is raring to make a difference on the field. Cockie was announced as part of the leadership group last week.

SHEPHEARD’S ROYAL RETURN
Forward Hamish Shepheard will play his original WAFL club for the first time. Shepheard played 41 games for East Perth from 2009-2011 before Fremantle picked him with Rookie Draft #34.

UNFURLING THE FLAG
Subiaco will continue the tradition of unfurling the flag at the first home game of the year and we encourage you to join us. The flag will be raised ten minutes prior to bounce: down.
