SFC 2016: Pre-Season v West Perth

The Subiaco Lions displayed early season dominance with a 57 point win over an under-manned West Perth at Medibank Stadium today.

The 2015 premiers fielded a relatively strong side in simmering conditions and had too much class for the Falcons.

Subiaco looked the more experienced and better prepared side in the encounter and won every quarter on their way to a 13.15 93 to 5.6 36 win.

25 were selected for the pre-season game due to the high temperatures, which allowed opportunities for younger players like Jeremy Woodley, Max Walters, Greg Clark, Dylan Clarke and Matt Bogensperger who all performed well.

Although there were expected growing pains the Lions settled in and impressed with their energy in trying conditions.

Recruits Greg Broughton, Adam Cockie, Ben Sokol and Shaquille Mckenzie had strong showings. Broughton donned the #8 and played a sweeping defender role and Cockie was utilised as a follower.

Shaquille Mckenzie played on the half-forward flank and used his speed to offer an outlet to the midfield.  Ben Sokol was used deep in the forward line and booted three goals.

Club favourite Nick Hay was a welcome return to the maroon and gold with the big forward playing his first game since 2014.
