Subi ready for Semi Final

Subiaco will go into Sunday’s semi-final against West Perth with the confidence of a healthy squad ready to fire.

The Lions earned a first round bye for finishing on top of the ladder which allowed valuable rest for Jarrad Schofield’s men.

“We had a good week on the track and utilised the time to freshen up physically and mentally. It was a unique week with our reserves playing so we had to make sure they stayed focused,

“Similarly to West Perth we’ve got about 26-28 players to pick from this week. About four guys got a run in that reserves side to get some match time and also stake their claim for a spot,

We’re in a good position with the health of our squad so it will make for an interesting battle.” said Schofield

Schoey and coaching staff also utilised the break to measure up their opponent against Peel Thunder in the Qualifying Final. The Lions squad travelled to HBF Arena to get a look at their first September Challenge.

“You can take small parts of it out. Peel were undermanned but West Perth still played some pretty good football, got a lot of the ball and their ball movement was at a premium,

“We’ve had some close battles with West Perth over the season and we’re under no illusion on how tough this weekends game will be.” said Schofield

Schofield voiced his opinion on skipper Kyal Horsley’s return to health at the WAFL Finals Press Conference on Wednesday but re-iterated the importance of playing as a team.

“You always want your skipper leading by example and (Kyal Horsley’s) last two games were really good. He’s covering the ground well and his leg speed is back.

“He’s had an in-different year with some soft tissue injuries and his calf but he’s worked really hard to get his body right and we’ve seen the results of that in the last month,

“We expect him to lead from the front but like every other player he’ll have a role to play and will have to do his job,

“You can focus on one area or another but both sides match up quite well and play similar brands of football.

It was probably a midfield battle last game where they kicked three stoppage goals which literally won them the game, but everyone will need to play their roll to get the win this weekend.” added Schofield
