Handy start at Subi

Scott Hancock has only been with us for 11 games; but he’s already made a significant impact.

And with his 50th WAFL start around the corner Handy is stoked to be flying with the Subiaco Lions.

"I’ve really enjoyed my football at Subiaco coming into a fresh scene with a fresh group of players. We have a really talented list and it's been great to see everyone developing as players and as a team." said Hancock

Hancock has played every game at his new club in 2015 averaging 18 disposals a game and the 23 year old has happily fit amongst a firing midfield group.

"I’ve been pretty lucky with the midfield groups i’ve been able to work with. At East Fremantle we had a really deep midfield and coming to Subiaco this year we have an on par if not better group of on-ballers,

"It makes you lift your game and improve on things to compliment the group and i’ve been really enjoying my footy with the lads at Subi." said Hancock

In specific two mids have impressed Hancock over the Lions blistering start to the season with Phez and Robbo praised for their play.

"There’s a couple of guys you always enjoy breaking out of the middle with the footy. Chris Phelan has a really penetrating kick and has been in great form this year and Brett Robinson creates a lot of play with his run and carry.

"I always feel I work well with those guys and compliment the way they play well." added Hancock

Hancock has developed a knack for big chases in his first season with the Lions recording 37 tackles. This makes him the fourth most prominent tackler in the side behind Dave Madut (50), Jordan Lockyer (40) and Brett Mahoney (39).

"Because i’ve played in some pretty talented midfield groups i’ve had to add things to my game to help the game-plan and the chasing and tackling is something that i’ve always worked hard on. If you can apply pressure on the ball carrier and play your role the team will thank you for it."

Under the tuition of head coach Jarrad Schofield, Hancock is also working on hitting the scoreboard.

"Another facet i’ve been working on is developing my offensive game and hitting the scoreboard a bit more. There’s a few areas I can definitely improve on but i’ve enjoyed learning from Schoey and the coaches at Subi." said Hancock

Joining the reigning premiers on an 10-1 start has also had interesting perks for the young on-baller with Handy featured on the promotion boards in every new generation McDonalds restaurant.

Over-night, Hancock's face appeared in almost every Maccas across the state.

"I’ve had a few mates send photos and make a mention of it. It’s pretty funny really, you don’t really expect your face to pop up but it’s good to see Mcdonalds supporting the WAFL and WA Football. The additions of Channel 7 and McDonalds as partners has been great for the league this year."

Hancock and the Lions will take on West Perth on Saturday at HBF Arena.
