Lions Buzz: Round 12
Monday, 15 June 2015
Subi have moved three games clear on top of the WAFL ladder after a gutsy 22-point win over South Fremantle at Medibank Stadium.
The Lions managed to outlast the Dogs in a defensive display recording a 9-1 tally to open a big lead on second placed West Perth.
Subi started fast but were slowed by multiple injury concerns. Darren Rumble suffered a corked calf and was quickly followed on the sidelines by Brett Robinson (ankle) and Hayden Kennedy (concussion) in the first half.
A determined Lions outfit maintained their composure three men down to restrict the Bulldogs to one of their lowest scores of the year.
Young forward Kyle Halligan was a standout for the Lions forwards who were continually frustrated moving the ball into the front half. Halligan’s poise and energy stood out on the day with the 21 year old kicking three goals and taking some huge marks.
Chris Deluca also had a massive impact in the last quarter and heavily influenced the last two Lions goals to ice the game. Deluca’s speed and tackling has been huge since his return.
Halfback Wayde Twomey led disposals with 27 with Sam Menegola 25 and Scott Hancock 21 also busy. The Lions seventh win in a row equals the hot start made in the 2007 premiership year.
Subiaco also promoted Mens Health Round alongside The Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, PROST and Medibank to deliver another successful game-day project.
