Colts Report: June 2015

COLTS HEAD COACH - SEAN WRIGLEY

After a good win against East Fremantle on the weekend the hard work that the colts have been doing at training is showing dividends during games. It’s been a challenging start to the 2015 season but the colts are looking forward to the challenges that the rest of the season poses with high levels of optimism and positivity.

The group isn’t shying away from the win loss ratio but continue to promote the importance of striving to get better and the group has an air of excitement with some quality young players getting games under their belt at colts level and from the current list there are 34 players who are eligible for colt’s football in 2016, with 22 of these players eligible for 2017.

It has been pleasing to see Jayden Gerrand and Sam Demarte return from long-term injuries with Jayden playing on Saturday morning against East Fremantle.  Young Lions Aaron Breman, Joey Deegan, Luke Halligan, Nic Baroni and Brodie Cole continue their development as quality young players and they are well supported by players from the 16’s program who have started transitioning into the colts squad from the 16’s program.

The transition program of colt’s players to senior football and 16s to colts continues to be a key focus to the clubs approach to player development and is in full swing.  So far there have been 9 colts players exposed to senior training and have been training once a week with the seniors with a further 6 players to be rotated through this program through the second half of the season. With the 16’s players there have been 8 players transition into the colts program and within the next month there will be another 8 players invited to participate.

Players from our regional zones have also been very important to the colts program in 2015. So far this year Tom Breeze and Ryan Borchet have both moved to Perth so that they can be involved with the colts program on a fulltime basis, and Jacob Miller, Callum Bramley and Jorden Hooks have all travelled down from Kalgoorlie to play games. So far this year there haven’t been any players travel from Esperance to play; there are a number of players from both parts of our regional zone that are being monitored with a view to them playing through the second half of the season.

David Purser, Luke, Hopkins, Jack Mayo, Madoc Plane, Wyvern McDiarmid, Matt Pannell, Josh Leunig and Nick Barker who have been training with the colts as part of the 16s transition program have recently been added to the colts squad.  These players join other under 16s players Paul Silvestro, who is having an impressive season at colt’s level, and Kyron Hayden and Ben Miller who are part of the State 16s squad.

Congratulations to the following 19 players who have debuted for Subiaco this year including;
