Subi's Clark thrives at US camp

What do New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning and Subiaco Lions youngster Greg Clark have in common?

Apart from insatiable work ethic and desire to win both have now attended the same elite camp in Bradenton, Florida, which Clark visited as a venture of the Australian Institute of Sport.

Clark went to the IMG camp alongside Callum Ah Chee (South Fremantle), Kade Stewart (South Fremantle) and Jorden Snadden (East Fremantle) as an opportunity provided by the AIS.

AFL National and International talent Manager Kevin Sheehan was excited about the opportunity provided for the young footballers.

“This international tour provided our Academy players with the opportunity to experience the nuances of travel and adjusting to the environmental issues of training professionally, in different venues and on varying surfaces from a variety of sports coaches.” Said Sheehan

Clark who established himself as a consistent midfielder for the Colts last year has been touted as one of the WAFL’s upcoming talents and the driven youngster was humbled by the experience.

"Yeah it’s crazy to think we’re using the same camp and facilities as sports stars like Eli Manning and Maria Sharapova. Some of the worlds elite athletes have come through this facility so it’s definitely humbling,

"It was a great experience going to New Zealand last year with the AIS but the United States was such a unique experience. It was definately eye opening to see their attention to detail with sports conditioning." said Clark

Clark visited Bradenton, Florida with three other WAFL talents Ah Chee, Stewart and Snadden and although the training was hard, trying to explain what sport they played to international athletes was even harder.

"It was a really un-natural environment because you have all these athletes from different parts of the world and most of them have no idea what Australian Rules Football is. We tried explaining the game to other people at the camp and they were really confused. We just told them to youtube AFL and get back to us." said Clark

The 17 year old has been working hard with the senior team this pre-season and has been relishing the experience to train with a premiership winning side.

"This pre-season has been on another level to others and it’s been a huge learning experience. You start pushing yourself harder when you're surrounded by the bigger bodies and i’ve enjoyed the challenge,

"I would love to try and get my debut at senior level this year but that comes with working hard and a solid pre-season. And there's still plenty of work to do."
