Mayor Pickard's Praise

The Subiaco Football Club completed their premiership celebrations last Thursday with a civic reception hosted by the City Of Joondalup.

Subi’s staff and players were invited to the Councillors Lounge in Joondalup were Mayor Troy Pickard acknowledged the clubs efforts in 2014.

“I thought the way the council, CEO and Mayor of Joondalup interacted with the Subiaco Football Club was great; it was really well done, said Subiaco CEO Peter Capes

“The acknowledgement from governing bodies like the City Of Joondalup is important because it illustrates that it’s still a state league competition. It’s vital because the people involved with the WAFL are reinforced of its significance,

“Our staff and players realised that what they’re doing is bigger than just Medibank Stadium and football. It added another dimension of enjoyment and respect for the club and we’re very appreciative.” Added Capes

The Subiaco party arrived early in the morning to be greeted by food and drink in the picturesque City of Joondalup reception area before being addressed by CEO Garry Hunt and Mayor Troy Pickard

“A few speeches were made and the council illustrated that they’re in it for the community and making a difference in their local environment. Were on the southern most side of their boundaries and they knew our development zones intimately,

“Troy Pickard has even been to district presentation dinners at the Subiaco Football Club and knew a handful of the staff so it was great to touch base again.

External support for WAFL clubs is always greatly appreciated and with the roots of a successful relationship in place Capes is excited for the future.

“One of the most pleasing things to come from the connection is that they’re really interested in the Subiaco Football Club it’s helped develop the relationship over the last few years,

“I sat down with COJ Mayor Troy Pickard a couple of years ago to discuss the issues with the junior clubs in our area and he embraced the feedback and diligently worked through it,

“Hopefully we can keep developing the relationship with Pickard and the council of Joondalup so we can expand and solidify traditions.”
