Stronger, Faster Lions

Subiaco have added Jackson Dennis as the strength and conditioning coach for the 2015 season.

Dennis joins the Lions after spending two years with the Perth Demons as head of strength and conditioning.

The 24 year old has a keen focus on football and is excited to join a passionate club coming of a WAFL premiership.

“The last two years I’ve been operating as head of strength and conditioning for the Perth Demons Football Club and I’ve also been working with the West Coast Eagles. I started with practical duties in 2011 at the West Coast, which transitioned into a part time role with. There’s an emphasis on high performance standards at that level so it’s been really beneficial for my career.”

Subiaco vied for the services of Dennis after completing two years with WAFL rivals Perth and the young scholar is excited to continue his career at Medibank Stadium.

“I’m really excited for the opportunity I’ve been given. I was approached in the off-season and had discussions with head coach Jarrad Schofield and Football Operations Manager Luke Sanders in regards to joining and at the end of the chat I couldn’t say no,

“Subiaco is a great club that conducts themselves at a very high standard and I can’t wait to start working with the playing group. From what I hear the group of players at Subiaco are very committed and dedicated to the process so I’m looking forward to implementing some strategies that I haven’t been able to at previous clubs.” Said Dennis

Dennis fills the role left vacant by James Doyle and Toby Horak; who now plies his trade at the Perth Glory Football Club in the A-League. Dennis values the strategy taken in last year’s pre-season and illustrated that Horak’s methods will largely remain intact.

“I was lucky enough to catch up with Toby Horak who developed the pre-season program for the Lions 2014 premiership year. A lot of the program will remain the same in regards to running and fitness but we want to make sure the strength and conditioning program is more structured. This means dedicating times to focus groups such as speed training or aiding the younger bodies to develop in the gym.

Subiaco will prepare to defend their title with another pre-season beginning next Monday. Dennis is enthusiastic about getting started and will focus on getting the Lions ready for a repeat.

“The biggest goal from my perspective is to have everyone up and ready to go for the start of the season. If the injury list is minimised and everyone is flying for the first game then we’ll be in a very good position.” Added Dennis
