Carnivals add character

Subiaco’s development carnival has come to a conclusion for another year with the performances of the Lions next wave generating plenty of excitement.

The Lions 14’s and 15’s development squads completed their five game carnival against South Fremantle at Medibank Stadium last week and 15’s development coach Neil Arnold believes the group achieved the goals set by the coaching staff.

“The development squads are an important phase of our football club as it introduces the young players to the standard required,

“The 14’s groups serve as talent identification to find out what kind of players we have and once they elevate into the 15’s system we refine the talent and take them to the next step in regards to the Subiaco game style.” Said Arnold

Neil Arnold also serves as a development and assistant coach for the Colts program and the Lions tutor is excited with the development he’s seeing in the young group. His expertise ensures that the 15’s development program works towards replicating the Colts program.

“A lot of players had great performances and there was plenty improvement. I coached the same group last year when they were 14’s and having them again this year’s as 15’s was fantastic because we got to see the development in the players and were able to take them to the next level of understanding,

You can see the kids start absorbing more of the structural and theory behind our football, added Arnold”

Subiaco have always been a team orientated club and it’s up to Arnold and the development staff to instill these qualities early.

“The main focuses at this stage are skill development, playing as a team and enjoyment. The biggest thing that I pushed with my development group was to play as a team and understanding the role you play within it.”
