Subiaco may have lost two tight encounters in a row; but one aspect of their play remains uncompromising.
Their defensive integrity…
The Lions back-line has fluctuated and adapted to personnel changes whilst maintaining fierce coverage over their WAFL opposition.
Subiaco’s back six have held tight in games that could have been blow-outs in previous years with the only loss by more than 14 points coming against Swan Districts this year.
South Fremantle and Claremont both threatened to blow Subiaco out over the last two weeks but like clockwork, the Lions defensive pressure re-gathered momentum and pushed for the win.
This defensive ability has grown over the last two years with Jarrad Schofield at the helm.
The Lions have used ten or more players in defensive roles in 2014 including three Lion debutants in Hayden Kennedy, Declan Jackson and Aaron Heal.
With a solid mixture of young talent and seasoned veterans such as Darren Rumble, Clancy Wheeler and Wayde Twomey Subiaco have the second best defence in the league behind East Perth only conceeding 81.3 points a game on average.
