Latham, the consistent

Joel Latham has confidently gone about his business since joining the Subiaco Football Club; but what you might not know is that the 22-year-old has played every game in 2014.

Latham stands alongside Jason Bristow and Chris Phelan as one of only three players to play every game this season and the versatile midfielder claims he embraced the vibe from the moment he got here.

“I loved it from the moment I got to the club. I already knew a few guys here so it was easy to settle in. It was tough moving away from all the friends I had at West Perth but I felt it was something I had to do for my football. Said Latham

Latham moved over from the West Perth Falcons after playing 58 games in their reserves. Little did the hard-working midfielder know that he was going to be a part of a finals contending league side in 2014.

“I was probably surprised at how well we were playing at first as the Lions had a down year last year, but the club has a lot of talented players and we saw in the pre-season that there was massive improvement with a healthy team,

“I didn’t really expect much coming to the club except putting my best foot forward and working hard. I was always confident with my ability to play league football and it worked out for the best at Subiaco.” added Latham

Originally from the Wanneroo Football Club Latham has been averaging 15 disposals a game as a defensive winger. With his physical defensive game landing him in the top five tacklers on Subiaco’s list, recovery has been crucial for Subiaco’s number 39.

“It’s been great to play every game this season; we’ve had players drop in and out due to injury so I’ve been happy to stay fit. The Subiaco staff do a great job at managing the strength and condition for the players and we didn’t have ice baths or spas at my previous clubs so that’s been a welcome addition.”

With the Lions in third place and four games clear of fifth placed West Perth; Latham knows the road ahead might contain finals football.

“I hope to stay consistent and be a part of finals football for the Subiaco Football Club. I was a part of a losing reserves grand final with West Perth last year so hopefully Subiaco can achieve some success in September.”
