Lions Meet Hungry Thunder
- Friday, 27 June 2014
Subiaco will come up against a Peel side searching for back-to-back wins for the first time since round 16 and 17 in 2011.
The Thunder’s 19-point win over Perth gave their fans a rare highlight for season 2014 with strong performances from some of their key players.
The Lions head into Saturday’s clash looking to rebound from a 9-point loss to East Fremantle.
Subiaco sit third on the WAFL ladder with 8 wins and four losses while Peel remains last with just 2 wins and are in line for another wooden spoon.
Lions ruck man Frank Stockley needs to pass a fitness test to prove he’s overcome a hamstring injury while excitement machine Shane Yarran is in line to return after a head knock at training ruled him out of last weekend's game.
Most football fans will be looking forward to Anthony Morabito’s return to the AFL in particular the 8 opposition WAFL coaches.
The injury plagued 22 year old hasn’t played AFL since 2010 and has undergone three knee reconstructions.
The midfielder gathered 28 disposals and booted 3 goals 2 in wet conditions against Perth.
It was the latest in a string of stellar performances that has his knocking of Ross Lyon’s door.
TEST OF DEPTH
Peel is brimming with AFL talent but it’s their depth that has let them down this season.
If Morabito is promoted it could expose Peel’s already shaky midfield.
Andrew McDougall made his return to senior football with 17 possessions and 35 hit outs against East Fremantle last week.
If Stockley fails to line up, McDougall will shoulder the ruck load against Fremantle pair Jack Hannath and Jonathon Griffin.
The Dockers duo dominated Perth’s talls last weekend combining for 68 hit outs to the Demon’s 30.
'R' TRAIN ROLLS ON
Subiaco’s reserves continues to dominant the competition and sit two games clear on top of the ladder with a percentage that is more than double their closest rival East Perth.
Another 100+ point win could be on the cards. Toot Toot.
