Subiaco Football Club journalist and former player Michael Genovese took home the award for Best Club Media Story at the Clubs Western Australia honorary night.
The nomination was recognised by Clubs WA as the most outstanding club story awarding the ABC journalist for his work.
Currently working for Subiaco FC, 6PR, 96fm, channel 7 and the ABC; Genovese was delighted with the recognition.
“It was pretty cool to be acknowledged in front of a group of your peers but without the work of guys like Neil Arnold who monitors the Balga community groups for the Subi football club there would be no story.”
Genovese was a part of the Lions 2007 reserves premiership and managed three senior appearances last season before deciding to focus on his professional career in 2014.
“I came to a point where I decided to take my work seriously for once. Ive been at the same cross roads a few times but I thought it was time to start making some in roads on my professional career.”
Hailing from Kalgoorlie Genovese’s connection to the football club started nine years ago.
“I first came to Subiaco after Luke Sanders ( Football Operations Manager) showed interest in recruiting me from Kal. I was lucky to be named captain of The Colts side in 2006 and decided I wanted to play league football for the club. That one took me a while but I finally ticked that one off and to now be able to write about a club that I consider my home is pretty amazing.”
Whilst dipping his toes in multiple formats of media; Genovese hopes to remain in the arena of broadcasting.
“I never really sat down and thought about the end goal. I enjoy working in broadcasting because I’ve met some awesome people and good friends so to stay in that industry for as long as possible is the goal."
