Subi the giant killers

Subiaco has beaten East Perth in a Good Friday blockbuster 16.10 106 to 12.10 82 to remain undefeated going into the bye week.

Trailing by 15 points at three quarter time Subi pulled off a marauding last quarter kicking six goals to none to run out 24-point winners.

George Hampson was prolific again leading both possession and goals with 24 disposals and five majors.

Veterans Jason Bristow, Kyal Horsley and Chris Phelan were all important through stages of the game along with Victorian recruits Lachlan Delahunty (21 disposals) and Matt Boland (four goals) who were superb.

GAME CHANGERS:

GIANT KILLERS:
Who would have thought Subiaco would be 5-0 going into the bye week?
The Lions have defied everyone’s expectation of the club and beaten premiership contenders in Claremont, East Fremantle and now East Perth. Today’s win over the Royals may be the biggest however coming back in the last quarter against a team blooding 13 West Coast Eagles AFL players.

FIRST QUARTER FIRE:
The Subiaco Lions have been dominant in first quarters this season and it proved vital again kicking six goals to none against the Royals. East Perth would fight back in the middle of the game, which will surely be addressed by coach Jarrad Schofield over the bye week; but the first quarter burst created a foundation for the historic win. The Lions have kicked 23 goals and conceded only eight in first quarters this year.

QBE MAN OF THE MATCH:George Hampson has been on fire this season playing between the midfield and forward line. In his fourth year of senior football, Hampson is averaging 23 disposals and three goals. The versatile goal-kicker was awarded this week’s QBE Man of the Match after gathering 24 disposals and kicking five against the Royals. Congratulations to fan voter Michael Yarran who wins a signed Subi jumper.
