Colts leaders selected

The Colts leadership team of 2014 has been selected with 18 year old defender Brennan Pearce chosen as captain.
Pearce had a standout year for the Colts in 2013 where he emerged as a key defender in the Lions finals run.
Joining Pearce as vice-captain is Adam Creeper who will serve as the Colts leading ruckman after developing into an excellent player and leader over the last few years.
“Pearce and Creeper have really stepped up over the off-season. They’ve taken the roles as leaders and offer to the younger players coming through,” said coach Steve Armstrong
Cody Grace, Rhys McAlister, Ryan Vermeersch, Tom Hooper and Tim Edwards make up the remaining leadership contingent who will aim to direct a young Lions side to a consecutive finals appearance.
But Colts head coach Steve Armstrong insists the leadership group extends beyond the players named.
“We’ve got a group of guys who we hope will press for senior football this year. Guys like Joshua Deluca, Greg Clark and Max Walters naturally offer leadership when they’re around the squad but we hope they will be a part of the State 18’s and play senior football.”
The Colts leaders put up an impressive performance in a pre-season game against East Fremantle two weeks ago with Army praising the midfield group.
“I was happy with how the boys performed against East Fremantle. The young leaders led from the front and the midfield group worked really well together. Young ruckmen Ben Evans and Ashton Williamson were great which allowed us to give (vice-captain) Adam Creeper a run in the forward line.”
“The exciting thing is that we have more depth in the squad than we probably anticipated with a few of our older boys available for selection come round one.”
The Lions are fitting in their last weeks of preparation as they look towards the first clash of 2014 agaist South Fremantle at Medibank Stadium
