The Subiaco Colts have kicked off their 2014 pre-season with a number of changes in the coaching ranks.
Steve Armstrong has remained at the helm of the Lions for 2014 and has brought in Community Programs Manager Neil Arnold as an assistant alongside Mike Pannell.
The new coaches got their first taste of training as the Colts commenced pre-season on Monday; with the boys hitting the track at the Sacred Heart Sporting Grounds in Sorrento.
New assistant coach Neil Arnold was impressed with the squads level of commitment; with around 65 players vying for spots in the squad.
“The squad hit the track with commitment, with 65 kids working hard to put their best foot forward.”
“We ran a three kilometre time trial to gauge the fitness of the group followed by some light skills training.”
Another noted positive by new assistant coach Neil Arnold was the apparent success of Subiaco’s community programs with nine players from Balga Senior High School represented in the squad.
“The link we’ve formed with the Balga Senior High school is not only helping kids through football but also in their education and leadership.”
“It’s extremely pleasing to see the program is proving successful and that the ongoing relationship between the school and the football club is having an impact.”
The Colts are set to work over the next month before the Christmas break to create chemistry within the coaching staff and extended squad.
