Subiaco’s Greg Clark has been awarded an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship after a phenomenal 2013.

Emerging from Subiaco’s Excellence Program; Clark has impressed beyond expectations in 2013; captaining the West Australian U16’s along with playing a role in the finals-contending Subiaco Colts.

The 16 year old has proven to be an extremely versatile player for Western Australia and the Lions; with the ability to compete at ground level but also retaining the height to be dominant in marking contests.

Subiaco FC Player Development Officer Jeff Lind has been impressed with Clark’s development as a footballer; attributing his success to his work ethic.

“I’ve been extremely impressed with his development and the ability to transition from junior football to Colts.” said Lind

“Clark was a dominant player in our U15’s Development program in 2012 which warranted an invite to Colts training in the off-season; and he took the opportunity with both hands. His work rate and ethic caught the eye of our coaching staff. We never planned for Clark to make the jump from 15’s to Colts, he earned that.”

After earning a spot in the Colts best 22 by the season opener; Clark burst onto the scene with 20 disposals and eight tackles against West Perth.

Since then the dynamic youngster hasn’t looked back, averaging 13 possessions a game in  winger role.

“We’ve been playing Clark as a wingman for the majority of 2013. The next step for him is to become an influential contributor for the Colts; and his induction to the AIS will help that. The players chosen for the AIS are basically fast-tracked as footballers; learning how to prepare and perform at the highest level, so it’s an exciting opportunity.” said Lind.

Clark will take part in four training camps over the next 12 months amongst 61 of Australia’s most talented young players; receiving tutelage from AFL Engagement and Talent Co-ordinator and ex-Brisbane Lion Chris Johnson.
