The Colts have recorded a comprehensive 47 point win against West Perth today as they maintain third spot on the WAFL ladder.
The return of goal-kicker Michael Wood was a massive bonus for the Lions; as he recorded 22 disposals and kicked five goals playing from the midfield.
WAFL Colts leading goal kicker Rhys McAlister also had five; making the most of Lions overwhelming amount of scoring chances.
Captain Declan Jackson was happy with the win but believes his Lions side need to rectify periods where the team drops off.
“We played pretty sluggishly; we weren’t at our best but were solid for periods of the game.
The third quarter was good, we felt positive with our game and kicked away, but the lapses in periods were disappointing.”
The Lions will head into the bye with an impressive 8 wins but Jackson says they have a lot to work on over the bye week before they face East Fremantle.
“We need to have a look at our skills and ball use over the bye; we kind of messed around with it during portions of today’s game so there’s definitely room for improvement.”
MICHAEL WOOD IS A GUN:
Michael Wood looked a league above the pack today; after returning to Colts football after a stint of league football under Jarrad Schofield. The young utility; showed he could also match it in the midfield today, gathering 22 disposals and booting five goals.
Captain Declan Jackson noted the young stars return as influential.
“Having Woody back was very handy. He absolutely dominated when he was around the ball today; you can tell how much he has benefited from playing WAFL league footy.”
FIRST QUARTERS ARE KEY:
When the Lions start fast, they win games, and that was the case today after a six goal to two start against the Falcons today. Max Walters was excellent in the first with his ball use, and Rhys McAlister made the most of the Lions opportunities to give the visiting side the perfect start.
