Around 80 indigenous students from four different schools in Kalgoorlie will take part in Subiaco’s Community Engagement program during semester 2.

Targeting aboriginal boys and girls between the ages of 10-16, the program aims to improve school behavior and attendance rates.

The Kalgoorlie arm of the program is now in it’s second year and Subiaco’s Community Programs Manager Neil Arnold says it’s been a runaway success.

“Every single school we have worked with has given great feedback on their attendance rates and the attitude swings in the students, they love it,”

“The Football aspect of the whole program is minimal, it’s more about promoting healthy lifestyle choices, teaching them about indigenous culture, leadership and life skills.” Arnold said.

Local teacher Davina Flannery will run the program with help from the Subiaco players and officials who will visit during the semester.

The program currently runs at O'connor Primary, Kalgoorlie Primary, Boulder Primary and East Kalgoorlie Primary Schools.
