Subiaco’s Colts have recorded their fourth win of the season with a 78 point belting of Peel Thunder at Rushton Park.
The Lions outscored the Thunder in every quarter as the home-side struggled to contain Subi forward Rhys McAlister who ended with five goals.
The game was won in the midfield though as Subiaco’s runners created twice as many scoring chances as Peel.
Connor Wilkinson continues to develop in the Lions midfield recording 25 disposals and gelling well with counterparts Max Walters (18) and Hayden Kennedy (15),
Wilkinson had his highest possession tally in Colts football against the Thunder with 25 including 19 kicks. Played a crucial role transitioning the ball and continues to be an integral part of the Colts midfield.
Finished with three goals and looked dangerous all day. Grace is growing into a dominant leading forward who is just as valuable setting up team-mates as he is in front of goal.
The small forward equalled his biggest tally as a Lion with his second five goal haul of the year. The Lions forward line continues to run like a well-oiled machine and today McAlister was the beneficiary feeding off some excellent delivery from players like Joshua Deluca and Cody Grace. Is averaging 3.5 goals a game in 2013 playing a front and centre role.
EFFICIENCY THE KEY:
The Lions have put an emphasis of taking their chances in recent weeks, eclipsing 70% kicking accuracy two weeks in a row. This can also be attributed to finding forwards in the right area as the chemistry between the midfield and leading forwards begins to grow. Peel gathered 30 more disposals than the Lions today but were far less clinical with their decision making and goal kicking to show a vast difference in class between the sides.
THERE’S A FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING
The Lions had three debut goal-kickers today with Anthony Champion, Chris Bryan and Liam Ellis all celebrating their first majors in Colts footy. Congratulations boys!
