Colts Preview vs Claremont

Fresh off their first loss of the season, the Subiaco Colts are now looking to rebound against Claremont tonight at Medibank Stadium.

The Lions suffered a humbling defeat at the hands of East Fremantle last week; albeit with an under-manned side missing starting players such as Jordan Bestry (illness), Connor Wilkinson (illness), Antoine Garlett (illness) and Hayden Kennedy (elbow).

The Colts were out muscled and out run in certain areas of the game, but the core structures impressively remained strong.

These structures almost saw the Lions pull off a mercurial final quarter win, cutting down a massive lead to just 11 points before falling at the final hurdle.

This week head coach Steve Armstrong will welcome back several of his regulars to utilise for his high pressure brand of football.

The Lions will need all the firepower they can get though as they face an undefeated Claremont side that’s had the wood over Subi on the last four occasions.

Here’s what I think will change the game

SHARPSHOOTERS: With wet conditions predicted, goals will be at a premium. The Lions have found excellent chemistry between forwards Michael Wood, Ryan Vermeesch, Rhys McAlister and Cody Grace this year, so look for one of these boys to have a big night as the rest play supporting roles.

With the ball slippery and hitting the deck, Subi will need small forward Rhys McAlister to read the play and kick a few quick goals

MIDFIELD WAR: The Lions midfield has undergone a major revamp this year with fresh players like Max Walters and Hayden Kennedy stepping in to play big roles. Tonight the game will be won in the contests and who is willing to fight harder for the ball.

Look for senior midfielder Andrew Vawser to lead the way in this department; as the hard-hitting midfielder never strays from a fight.

PREDICITION: I can’t wait to see what the Lions can do against this highflying Claremont outfit. With the return of starting ruckman Jordan Bestry and midfielder Connor Wilkinson, Subiaco have every chance of winning this game. If Declan Jackson and co can negate Claremont goal-kicker Harrison Court and the Subi midfield attacks the ball with intensity, the game is in their hands. My final prediction is Subiaco by a wisker.
