Five of Subiaco’s most talented Colts, Declan Jackson, Hayden Kennedy, Jordan Bestry, Joshua Deluca, and Cody Grace, have been selected to represent the Lions for the February 2nd State 18’s Exhibition match at Arena Joondalup.
Four of the players, Jackson, Bestry, Deluca and Grace, had an influential role in the Lions impressive season last year, with the side finishing 11-9 and narrowly missing out on a finals berth.
The fifth player selected, Kalgoorlie sourced Hayden Kennedy, a state 16’s player in 2011, has come up to Colts this year and is described as a “fast paced, highly skilled ball magnet” by Player Development Manager Jeff Lind.
The 3:00 PM game will conclude a day of medical screening, skill testing and AFL combine testing to evaluate the State’s best talent.
Jordan Bestry is a tall versatile ruckman who can also play up forward. Has great skills for a big man and stepped up in 2012 when pushed into the starting ruck role.
Aggressive midfielder with blistering pace. Still perfecting his game in the Colts format but showed glimpses of brilliance towards the end of the 2012 season, especially in a round 23 match-up against Peel where he carved the Thunder with 28 possessions and a goal.
Athletic player with the ability to play anywhere on the paddock. Was used predominantly as a third tall in the forward line last year where he kicked 24 goals, but could definitely make the move to a key position this year. Was selected in the All-Australian schoolboys and State 16’s in 2012,
Jacksonis a well-built tall defender who is notorious for his competitive style of play. Consistently shut down in-form forwards in 2012 and was a key reason to why the Lions had the third best backlines in the competition.
Originally from the Mines Rovers football club in Kalgoorlie, Kennedy has caught the eye of selectors with his quality disposal and pace. Plays gutsy in and under football and looks fit and good to go after suffering from a bout of Osteitis Pubis in 2012.
