Subiaco's Oldest Member

At the start of the season we revealed our youngest supporter, Lachlan Douglas Fimister, whose granddad Norm signed him up as a Subiaco member just 11 hours after his birth.

Now we have our oldest current member and most loyal supporter – 95-year-old Trevor Limb.

The son of Herb 'Hubba' Limb, a Subiaco player in the early 1900s, Trevor began his association with the club in 1920 as a four-year-old mascot when his dad brought him along to games as the team's mascot.

.

Now 91 years on, Trevor still continues his passion for Subiaco Football Club, despite living in Melbourne.

His association with the Lions was not only through his father. Trevor himself played 20 games for Subiaco during the Hayden Bunton Senior era. He played mostly at centre half back in a team that had former Carlton player Keith Shea at centre half forward and Geelong player Les Hardeman at Fullback.

Now in 2012, Trevor receives a letter from the club each week with the match report of each week's match, which he reads religiously.

And still has the passion to say "Carn the Lions!"

HERB 'HUBBA' LIMB:

Herb Hubba Limb, the father of Trevor, was a Subiaco player for the ten years between 1911 and 1921. Before that he made his reputation playing for Sturt in the SANFL.

Hubba gained his nickname shortly after his arrival at the Lions for his ability to bounce straight back up after being knocked to the ground and was dubbed 'Hubba Dubba Indian Rubber'.

A four-time premiership player for the club, Hubba became renowned for his kicking (particularly the place kick) and won a number of trophies and awards. In 1912 he won a long-distance kicking contest with a distance of 72 and a half yards. In 1914 during the state representative carnival he was challenged to a goal-kicking competition by rugby league legend Dally Messenger, who he beat and was crowned goal kicking champion of Australasia.

NEXT GENERATION:

Trevor's son, Michael, now works in football in Geelong. He played with St Kilda Under 19s in 1973, '74 and '75 and trained with club legend Carl Ditterich, Robbie Muir, Barry Lawrence and Trevor Barker. His sons Tom and Blake currently play in the local Geelong competition.

We can only hope one day we may lure a Limb back to Subiaco…
