SUBIACO will begin the search for Chris Waterman's replacement immediately.

Waterman cited AFL opportunities as the reason he elected not to exercise the option in his contract to coach on in 2013 and informed the club on Monday.

The former West Coast Eagles premiership player had been in charge of the Lions for three seasons and took them to last year's grand final.

Football Operations Manager Luke Sanders said: "The Subiaco Football Club has began the process to appoint a senior coach for the 2013 season and beyond."

"The club has identified a number of potential candidates and we are working through a process in a timely fashion to ensure that we select the most appropriate person to lead the club.

"The club will work diligently over the next fortnight to appoint a coach for the beginning of preseason training.

"The Subiaco Football Club would like to acknowledge the contribution Chris has made over the past three seasons and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavours."

The club will inform members and supporters a soon as a decision has been reached.
