Colts Shine in Big Win Over Peel
- Saturday, 14 July 2012
Subiaco recorded 20 goals for the first time this year in an emphatic 93 point win over Peel Thunder. The scence was set in the first quarter when the Lions led by 43 poits after piling on 7 goals. Full forward Michael Wood was in red hot form with 4 goals to quarter time. Subi dominated the clearance with midfielders Dom Sheed, Charlie Lefanu, Dylan Clarke setting the scene for a big game.
The Lions had clear winners all over the ground with forwards Kyle Halligan, Cam Smith and Eddie Hill providing aerial supremacy. Down back Bill Fethers, Declan Jackson and Matt Turner repelled anything that Peel had on offer.
It was a great team performance and one that gave coach Steve Armstrong with reason to be well satisfied. Steve praised the boys for the manner in which they have now gelled together and are playing for one another.
The game also saw Esperance boys Brian Clinch and Chris Harding play their games in the maroon and gold colours. Both boys contributed to the team and can be well pleased with their experience. Interestingly, in the team Subiaco fielded 11 of the 23 players originated from the country, which included five from the Goldfields and four from Esperance. It is pleasing that so many country boys are being given the opportunity at Subiaco.
This result sees the Lions reamin in the hunt for a finals berth. With six wins now, Subi needs to maintain its current momentum and a final four position is not out of the equation.
