GEORGE Hampson says Subiaco will need to be vigilant when they face the “up and down” Peel Thunder on Saturday.
Hampson said Peel’s upset wins over competition leaders proves they can match it with anybody in the WAFL.
“They’re a half-decent side they’ve got a few AFL players and have knocked off Swans and Claremont but as they have been over a number of years they’re quite an up and down side so we have to concentrate on us bringing our best football.”
The Lions defeated Peel 19.17 (131) to 13.8 (86) at Bendigo Bank Stadium in round 2 with a Des Headland eight goal haul the difference between the two sides.
That win the Lions second of the season on route to four straight to start the season before a mid season slump.
Subiaco have won two of their last three matches with wins over East Fremantle and East Perth and a loss to Claremont in a match they appeared in control.
The Thunder with their own rollercoaster season, a win over flag fancy Claremont followed by back-to-back 15-goal losses to East Fremantle and Swan Districts saw coach Trevor Williams sacked.
A first up win over South Fremantle under interim coach Mark Moody, a bye and a honourable loss to premiership contender East Perth produces an unpredictable Peel for this weekend.
Hampson said if a strengthened Subiaco stick to the basics they should keep their season alive.
“We’ve won two of the last three and get a pretty good side in so we’re pretty confident,” he said.
“We’ve been more eager for the ball, been more eager to be first to it and work together, work as a team. Earlier in the year we had too many numbers going to the one bloke and not covering the outlet so hopefully that’s what has been working for us over the past couple of weeks and continues this week.
“We get a few boys back, I haven’t seen the team yet but hopefully we get a few and hopefully Des is playing because he kicked eight against them last time.”
Colts bounce down is at 9.10am, Reserves 11.40pm and League 2.10pm.
