Colts chipped by the Demons
- Saturday, 09 June 2012
The Lions have slumped to a disappointing 20 point loss at the hands of the Perth Demons today after leading by four points with ten minutes remaining.
Four Demons goal in the space of ten minutes blew the Colts out of the water to run out winners 10.15 (75) to 8.7 (55).
The Lions attention to contests and pressure saw them dominate one-percenters for most of the game but the intensity dropped off in the last.
Key contributors stood up again today in the form of James Garcia, Dylan Clarke and Alex Sheed but errors around the field were costly for Subiaco as three turnovers were directly converted into goals.
The loss is a blow to the Lions finals hopes as they now sit at 3 wins and 6 losses half-way through the season.
Although Harvie only gathered 15 disposals today, his in-and-under work ethic is extremely valuable. The fact he’s always willing to compete and scrap for the ball is important for Subiaco’s midfield take-aways.
James Garcia continues his stellar season with a 25 possession and ten mark game, along with four inside 50’s. His kicking wasn’t as crisp as it usually is but that doesn’t take away from his ability to gather and move the ball.
Has got a big game for a smaller guy. Continues to impress with his ball use and goal kicking along with his willingness to ferociously throw his body into a contest.
Fetherstonhaugh chipped in with a solid 19 disposal game today, but the more impressive part of his game today was his work in a defensive position, especially in the first half.
One of the highlights about the Colts footy in recent months has been their smothering defence. Today Declan Jackson, Anthony Foley, Kobie Somers and Tom Cox worked together brilliantly to negate a previously potent Demons side. Although Perth kicked away in the last, their combined efforts are commendable.
Jordan Bestry now has the ruck duties squarely on his shoulders due to an untimely knee injury to fellow ruckman Dave Madut. In his first game solo Bestry didn’t disappoint with 16 hit-outs, 11 possessions and a goal. He will look to improve his game as the Colts number one ruck-man for the majority of the season.
James Garcia again claims the Dream Team award this week with a best on ground 112. The roaming midfielder had 16 kicks and 10 marks in this contest. Peculiarly joined by one hit-out. Future ruckman prospect?... Probably not.
