E-mail Print PDF

Luke Newick celbrated his 150th game for Subiaco on Saturday.  For Newy it wasnt the fairly tale victory he had been hoping for.  In fact his 50th and 100th games were also losses.
Luke Newick has had a remarkable career with Subiaco, having played in 3 Reserves ans 4 League Premierships.  For a player who originally wanted to play with West Perth he is now one of the most decorated players in the Club's history.
We join together in acknowledging and congratulating Luke on his wonderful achievement.

The following is an article written by jornalist Chris Pike about Luke in the lead up to Saturday's game

Colts Match Report v East Perth

Ryan WadeEast Perth jumped out of the blocks and kicked away to a 19 point lead a quarter time. We were no where near the pace and needed to lift. A tight second quarter saw either side take control of the game. We were unable to put score board pressure on East Perth and the game was starting to get away from us. Down by 5 goals at half time we needed to work harder and find more of the footy if we were any chance of getting back into the game.

League Coach's Report - Rd 12 vs Swan Districts

E-mail Print PDF
It was a disappointing result on the weekend from the league team but in hindsight we have probably played the two best sides in the competition at the moment over the last two weeks and come up a bit short.  On both occasions we have certainly had our chances to win the games but we ourselves have just dropped off and we are not playing our best football consistently over four quarters Overall 7/8 player’s not impacting the contest leaves far too much for others to do and we have run out of options by the end.
Shaun Hildebrandt continues his good form as does Kyal Horsley, Marc Webb injured his shoulder early in the game and will miss the next couple of weeks and Jake Wooden made his debut for the club and showed a lot of promise. Luke Newick is getting more game time now as is Marty Smith, Raph Stack, Jordan Adamson-Holmes, Rory Muller, Josh Watson, Brad Stevenson and Ryan Sheehan who kicked 7 goals in the reserves victory on Sunday and is showing he can be a player of the future.

Colts Report v Swan Districts

Luke SymondsAfter a good solid week on the track the boys were keen to get a win on the board and start to play some exciting team footy. Swan Districts were 6 & 3 sitting third on the ladder & were always going to be a tough opponents.

Swans started the game well dominating most of the first quarter. We were unable to put score board pressure on and could have easily been down by more at quater time if swans kicked straight. The second saw us dominate most of the quarter but again we were unable to put score board pressure on swans. Some costly turnover by hand and foot cost us and we should have been up by a couple of goals at half time.

The Subiaco Football Club threw its support behind the Breast Cancer Foundation of WA with the launch of Purple Bra Day at Medibank Stadium on Sunday.
SFC CEO Jeff Lind said “The Subi players are to be congratulated for the manner in which they have supported the BCFWA.  To promote Purple Bra Day they were involved in media coverage with the Sunday Times, PerthNow and on The Western Front, appeared live on MIX 94.5, had photos taken wearing purple bras – pretty well anything to promote this great cause.  We also thank the umpires, who supported the day by wearing purple uniforms”.
SFC was pleased assist with fundraising by allowing BCFWA to have the proceeds from the gate raffle and the President’s luncheon function.  At the luncheon guests also made substantial cash donations.  In all the BCFWA raised over $4,200 on the day which they were most grateful for.
Special guests at the function were Haydn Bunton, Ros Wothington (BCFWA founder), Shelley Taylor-Smith and Rhonda Forrest.  Ros, Shelley and Rhonda all spoke with emotion and showed why they are an inspiration to all of us.
The work still has not finished for our players – next they to take part in the BCFWA fashion parade at the Everywoman Expo later this month.  Visit www.breastcancer.org.au for more information.
The Subiaco Football Club thanks all members and patrons at Sunday’s game for their support.

Reserves Coach's Report - Rd 12 vs Swan Districts

E-mail Print PDF

Played at Medibank Stadium after the seniors on a good night for football and we came away with a 22 point win.
Our focus this week was to play good team football for 4 quarters and we were able to achieve that for most of the day.
We got off to a really good start due to us taking the first option and our skill level. Ryan Sheehan had a good start to the day with kicking 6 goals in the first quarter.  Swan challenged us during the third quarter and got a lead but credit to our boys we stuck to the game play and fought hard and regained the lead and took a 2 goal lead into the final quarter.
Our major goal scores for the day were R Sheehan 7, Bradshaw 3, Douglas 2, Adamson- Holmes 2
Best players T Richards, R Sheehan, T Viney, A Scott, and S Douglas
Thanks again for your support and hope to see you all when we take on East Perth this weekend.
Josh Wooden
